Maintain serial or IMEI information for products where each unit has its own identity. Connect the received device with its sale record so staff can distinguish otherwise identical units.
The model is the product. The serial identifies the exact unit.
Two phones of the same model can have different purchase and sale histories. Serial or IMEI tracking keeps those units distinguishable, which matters when a customer asks about a device, a warranty reference or a returned product.
Capture the relevant serials at receipt and select the actual unit being sold. Check the box, device and recorded identifier rather than relying on the model name. The supported bulk QR entry workflow can reduce typing, but its captured serials still need review.

Enable tracking on the item
In Master → Item, enable Serial Number Tracking and Apply. Set up the product before entering the individual pieces.

Receive each piece
On purchase, enter the serial numbers for the received quantity. Five devices need five distinct piece references, even when their model and price are identical.

Sell the physical device
At POS, scan or type the serial number on the device being handed over. Confirm that the selected record matches that physical piece.

Trace it later
Open Reports → Serial Number Register to inspect which serials remain in stock and which were sold. Use the same serial when investigating a customer’s device history.

Does serial tracking decide warranty eligibility?
It supplies identifying and transaction references. Warranty terms, manufacturer policies, physical condition and service decisions still need review; an identifiable serial is not an automatic warranty approval.
